Today we fly back to Hong Kong. Taking two cabs back to the airport is much less hassle than dealing with the bus, but provides its own brand of excitement as our taxi speeds along the wrong side of the road into oncoming traffic. At the airport, we once again pass on panda hats. I get us a ridiculously expensive pot of tea just to see what it tastes like (good, but not better than the rose jasmine from the tea shop). The flight back is as delightful as the previous one.
I'm really glad we got to come to Beijing and see as much as we did. There are things here both old an new that are unlike any place I've ever been. I'm also not particularly eager to return. There's just a vibe to it that isn't our style. The information asymmetry, the ubiquitous street vendors, the whole place just doesn't seem user friendly (which is not to say the people aren't friendly, because they are). If we do ever come back, though, I'll want to stay in the same hotel.
